Simple everyday activities can trigger and exacerbate with the exact cause of the pain unknown.
HOW does your back pain flair up?
There are 3 layers of muscle surrounding the spine. Deep, intermediate and superficial.
Deep Layer: The deep layer of muscle attaches to the vertebrae and stabilizes the spine
Intermediate and superficial layers: They are responsible for moving our spine
Changes to the muscles surrounding the spine e.g. fibre type, muscle control and a reduction in the size and strength of these muscles can all contribute to an increased fragility of the back.
WHY does this result in unexplained pain episodes?
Changes in these muscles surrounding the spine often means compensation from other muscles. When they become overworked during everyday life, the back becomes inflamed, angry and sore. Exercises targeting back strength can reverse many of these muscular changes.
HOW to prevent it?
- Continue to exercise gently, ensuring it feels good.
- Remember exercise is medicine.
- Maintain usual activities and work.
- Consider your posture and work habit, take regular breaks.
